AUSTIN, TX – At the request of the Mexican Secretariat of Foreign Affairs through the Mexican Consulate in Austin, Texas Secretary of State Rolando Pablos today met with Tamaulipas Governor Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca to discuss Texas’ relationship with the State of Tamaulipas. During the meeting, Secretary Pablos and Governor Cabeza de Vaca explored ways in which Texas can improve economic ties with Tamaulipas, which shares more border crossings with Texas than any other Mexican state. The two leaders also emphasized the cross-border familial ties between Texas and Tamaulipas. At the conclusion of the meeting, Secretary Pablos and Governor Cabeza de Vaca exchanged gifts and Governor Cabeza de Vaca invited Secretary Pablos to visit Tamaulipas in order to continue dialogue between the two border states.

“Texas and Tamaulipas are bonded by trade, culture, and family, and it is crucial for us to build a strong relationship in order to promote prosperity on both sides of the border,” Secretary Pablos said. “Governor Cabeza de Vaca’s deep Texas roots serve as a major asset to the partnership between Texas and Tamaulipas, and I hope to further expand our cooperation during my tenure as Secretary of State. I would like to thank Consul General Carlos González Gutiérrez for facilitating today’s meeting and for his ongoing work to strengthen the friendship between Texas and Mexico.”
